arUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Arusha National Park Overview

Spread over an area of 137 sq. km, Arusha National Park is one of the smaller yet most beautiful Tanzania destinations. Lying between the peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru, Arusha National Park is a charming park located 15 km from Arusha town. This is the park where safari goers come to truly experience Tanzania Safari Tours.

Described as a jewel among parks for its beauty and striking diversity of wildlife and natural surroundings, Arusha National Park features include the shallow alkaline Momella Lakes, renowned for their birdlife, both resident and migratory, particularly flamingos; the Ngurdoto Crater, a 3 km wide whole caldera, whose wildlife presence has earned it the nickname Little Ngorongoro; and Mount Meru, at 4,566 m, Tanzania’s second highest mountain and the fifth highest mountain in Africa. The forest contains an abundance of birds and wildlife including buffalo, elephants, hippos, giraffes, warthogs, a wide range of impalas, zebras, and the striking black-and-white colobus and blue monkeys moving among the branches. Leopards and hyenas are rarely seen, and lions are entirely absent from the park. Over 575 bird species, including both migratory and resident birds, such as large migratory birds, grebes, African pochards, and a variety of herons and egrets, along with crowned eagles, can be found in the park, as well as a wide variety of butterflies.
